INSTITUTIONAL PROMOTIONS COMMITTEE DATA SHEET

Purpose/Charge

To review all faculty applications for promotion in academic rank.

Objectives

To forward committee recommendations concerning promotion to the President of Harper College.

Membership

   CONSTITUENT GROUPS REPRESENTED AND NUMBER:

           One (1) member from each of the divisions with full-time faculty and one (1) member at-large.

    TERMS OF SERVICE:

Committee members from each division shall be elected by full-time faculty in their respective divisions for three-year staggered terms. Committee members shall not be eligible for re-election to a successive term unless no other faculty member from the division wishes to serve.  The President of the Faculty Senate shall appoint the member at-large for a one-year term.  By May 1, divisions shall elect a replacement for members whose terms are expiring.  The President of the Faculty Senate shall appoint replacements to complete the term for any members who cannot serve for any reason including applying for promotion.  The faculty who vacated the committee to apply for promotion may continue to serve the remainder of their three-year term the following year. 

    OFFICERS:

The committee shall elect two co-chairpersons by March 15.  The terms of office for both officers shall be one year.  One co-chair should be in the second year of their term and one co-chair should be in the third year of their term. 

 Meetings

   ORGANIZATIONAL:

The chairpersons will convene meetings of the committee as needed.  It is recommended that application materials of past recipients be made available for review in the office of the Provost.  The Committee will help educate full-time faculty regarding the promotion process.

 

   FREQUENCY:

            As needed, meetings to be scheduled and announced one week in advance.  Meetings may be called upon shorter notice when all committee members agree to meet or to waive their right of notification.


   TIME/LOCATION:

            The chairpersons shall set the time and dates of meetings with the approval of the committee.

   QUORUM:

            Three-fourths of the membership.
