Greg Clemons, chair of the Department of Music, has been busy this semester working with students in Chicago area high schools. On Saturday, February 26, Greg represented Harper College at the 32nd annual Midwest Music Festival held at Lemont High School. On Thursday, March 3, he was chief adjudicator and clinician for the annual Tri-District Concert Band Festival held in the Fenton High School Performing Arts Center in  Bensenville. On Saturday, March 5, Greg was a judge for the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Thornwood High School in South Holland. On Monday and Tuesday, March 14 & 15, Greg was invited to be a guest conductor and clinician for the 250 band students in the four Schaumburg High School concert bands. Two days of rehearsals with the students culminated in a concert on both Monday and Tuesday evenings in Weimer Auditorium. These "Band Aid Concerts" were organized by the students in the SHS Bands along with their directors Kevin Miller and Greg Tipps with all gate proceeds being donated to the Hemophilia Foundation of Illinois. Schaumburg High School's Music Department is one of the outstanding programs throughout the country to be selected as a Grammy Signature School.

As director of the Awards Program for the Illinois Council of Orchestras (ICO), Greg recently chaired a meeting of the Award Committee at Harper College on Friday, March 4 to select the winners of the 2011 ICO Awards. Membership in the ICO includes professional orchestras like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to community orchestras throughout the state. Awards presented by the ICO recognize outstanding achievement by conductors, orchestras, governing boards, and volunteers for orchestras throughout Illinois. Greg has served on the ICO Board of Directors since coming to Harper College in 1999.
