The minutes of February 26, 2009 were reviewed. Caryn Levington moved to accept them; Jim Edstrom seconded. The minutes were approved with changes.
V. Old Business
§ Group Studio Policy
Discussion was held whether or not to approve the policy at this meeting. Dave Braunschweig requested that he send the policy to all Senators first and then vote at the next meeting.
§ PAR forms LEJ/PSC – moved to March 19th meeting
§ Academic Standards – moved to March 19th meeting
§ Dual Credit – moved to March 19th meeting
VI. New Business
§ Dr. Pickelman – Achieving the Dream
Dr. Pickelman shared the history and criteria of this national initiative to help under represented populations at the community college succeed. Both presidential candidates for Harper are aware of Harper’s interest in the program. The deadline to apply for this initiative is the end of the month. Dave Richmond asked what input Dr. Pickelman is looking for from the Faculty Senate. Dr. Pickelman stated that this program cannot run without support of the faculty. The Board of Trustees will be voting on this initiative at the March 19th Board Meeting. Dave Braunschweig recommended that a committee be formed to research Achieving the Dream and offer recommendations and concerns to the Senate. Volunteers for the committee are Sue Overland, Judy Kulchawik, Caryn Levington, and Jacque Mott. Tom Dowd asked that an emergency meeting of the Senate be convened for next Thursday, March 19th to review the committee’s findings before the Board Meeting.
§ Marketing demo of new Harper website
Mike Barzacchini; the Director of Marketing Services gave a preview of the new Harper website. Mike wants the Senate to be aware of these changes and provide feedback to improve the site. He handed out a marketing data sheet outlining why and how the site will be changed.
Tom Dowd motioned to continue the meeting on Thursday, March 19th from 12:15pm -1:30pm, Carole Bomba seconded; motion approved.
Jim Edstrom moved to adjourn the meeting at 1:36pm, Caryn Levington seconded. The motion was approved.
