The meeting was called to order by President Tom Dowd at 12:22 PM.

Tom
Dowd, Andy Kidwell, and Dave Richmond will be heading to Springfield April 28th
for Lobby Day. If anyone is interested in going, contact Local 1600 to reserve
a seat.
VI. Old Business
§ Achieving the Dream
The ad hoc committee investigating this initiative shared their reasons for being in favor of the program. The Senate discussed the best way to inform Dr. Pickelman and the Board of the Senate’s support. Tom read a statement to take to the Board. A second separate memo will be sent to Dr. Pickelman. John Garcia motioned to approve faculty support of the Achieving the Dream Initiative, approval of the memo to be sent to the Board and a second separate memo to Dr. Pickelman. Carol Bomba seconded, motion approved. Dave Richmond read a draft of a memo to Dr. Pickelman. Kathi Nevels motioned to accept the memo and Pat Hamlen seconded; motion approved. Anne will send a copy of the draft to the Senators. Dave Braunschweig motioned to commend the ad hoc committee and Dave R. for their work and support on this initiative; Jim Edstrom seconded.
§ Pictures of the Senate were taken at 12:26pm by the Foundation Board photographer. Meeting resumed at 12:32pm.
§ Academic Standards Memo of Understanding
Dean’s Council has approved the Academic Standards Memo of Understanding for the Retirement of Catalogs with minor changes. In order to approve these changes, the Academic Standards committee is asking for the language to be consistent between career programs and transfer programs. The Senate reviewed the proposed changes and discussion ensued. Dave Braunschweig recommended changing “ substitutions” to “substitution”. Carole Bomba motioned to approve the change in language recommendation from the Academic Standards Committee, Kim Fournier seconded; motion approved.
§ PAR Forms LEJ/PSC
After brief discussion, John Garcia motioned to accept both PAR forms, Sam Giordano seconded; motion approved.
§ Group Studio
Tom Dowd created a statement to give to Diana Sharp for expressing the Faculty Senate’s approval of the Group Studio Policy. Pat Hamlen motioned to approve the policy and to forward the statement, John Garcia seconded; motion approved.
VII. New Business
§ Faculty Senate Spring Lunch May 8th or 15th
§ Senate Election
Volunteers needed for the March 24th and 25th election from 10-2pm. The table will be staffed in half hour time slots. Please let Mike Vijuk know by email if you are interested in staffing the election table.
Dave Richmond also mentioned that there was one candidate for two different senate seats. The election bylaws say there is no law against it. If this candidate wins both, the Senate would need to appoint someone to a seat. It was mentioned that the Election Committee discuss the issue with the candidate and ask them to withdraw their name from one of the seats. Sue Overland motioned that the Election Committee speak with the candidate, Linda Campbell seconded; motion approved.
Tom Dowd asked the Senate if the March 26th Senate Meeting should be cancelled. John Garcia motioned to cancel the meeting, Chad Taylor seconded; motion approved.
Jim Edstrom motioned to adjourn, Caryn Levington seconded; motion approved.
